Zakat for shop owners and businesses

For a business, zakat falls on stock for sale, cash and money you expect to collect — not on the equipment you use to run it.

Count

Inventory: goods held for sale — shop stock, raw materials, finished products — at today's selling price, not what you paid.

Receivables: money owed to you that you realistically expect to collect. Leave out doubtful debts; pay on them if they're ever repaid.

Business cash and bank balances.

Don't count

Shop fittings, machines and vehicles you use rather than sell.

Deduct

Business payables and other debts due within the coming year.
